Frequently asked questions
What happens to my file?
Your .qbw is uploaded over HTTPS, extracted on a secure host running the official QuickBooks SDK, and the resulting JSON is sent back to you. The original .qbw is deleted from our servers within 24 hours. We never share it.
What if my file is password-protected?
No problem — we strip the admin password as part of the upload. You do not need to know the password. If the file is locked we use our recovery tool first.
What data does the JSON contain?
Invoices, payments, credit memos, customers, vendors, your chart of accounts, and any open (unpaid) invoices. That covers roughly 90% of what most businesses need. Manual journal entries and bank transfers are covered with a small second file we describe in the receipt.
Do I need QuickBooks Desktop installed?
No. Everything happens on our side. You only need the .qbw file itself — the one QuickBooks uses to store your company data.
Can you migrate the data into FreeAgent for me as well?
Yes — that is the Done For You service. Extract the JSON here, then we post it into FreeAgent, Xero, Sage, Zoho, or any other cloud accounting package. Get in touch and we will send you a quote based on your file size.
What if it does not work?
No fix, no fee. If we cannot extract a usable JSON from your file we email you a full refund within one business day.
